Using public transportation to get to work is a great cost savings. But
it does leave me with a feeling of being trapped in case I need to run
an errand.
Thanks to a colleague, I found out that there is a ZIPCar station at the Sheraton Hotel next door. So I signed up for ZIPCar on
Saturday and am waiting for my ZIPCard to arrive in the mail. This
will allow me to borrow a car for $10.75/hour to run errands.
The
plan I chose was the $7/month fee which allows me to 'borrow' a car for
$10.75 an hour. The signup process is easy. There is a $25
application fee then the system does a driving record check. I received
an email that I was approved a few hours later and that my ZIPCard
would arrive in the mail.
The ZIPCard is used to lock and unlock the car. Watch some of the videos here on how this service works. Each Zipcar has it's own gas card in the visor for using to fuel up the car.
Another benefit of the ZIPCar service is that I can use it at other locations around town or when traveling.
I look forward to my first Zipcar experience.
